Thanks to everyone who helped get gardens to families this past year!
The goal of our Resiliency Gardens program is to empower and support families in growing their own food at or near their homes, so it will be accessible to them at any time. Additionally, the gardens will provide educational opportunities, connection to the natural world and each other, appreciation of the soil to table cycle and an opportunity for the stress relief that comes when families are able to be together, outside (a.k.a. eco-therapy).
Project purpose:
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges it has created in Central Texas communities, Partners for Education, Agriculture, and Sustainability (PEAS) is working to supply supplemental relief and a connection to nature for families experiencing economic challenges in our community while continuing to provide outdoor and edible education by providing materials for building and maintaining home-based gardens along with virtual garden education and support for adults and children.

PEAS will supply materials, transplants, and seeds for home gardens, (in-ground backyard, raised bed, or container gardens for patio spaces) along with live and remote support. This will be continuous support for establishing gardens and making use of the food that is harvested through two seasons of growing, provided by PEAS garden mentors. Communication will take place over the phone, via email, by live web video, video tutorials, and customized newsletters. We will provide a minimum 12 hours of customized support for each family over the course of the project.
Materials will be delivered to homes with initial set up instructions and the first follow up call will be set up to jointly create an implementation timeline. PEAS will ensure materials procurement and distribution is handled in a way that is consistent with CDC guidelines.
